Backtrack on plastic bags
We were disappointed to see Foodstuffs New Zealand back down on its policy of charging for plastic bags.
They changed this in its New World and Four Square stores in Auckland and Wellington.
The company says it has done this in response to customer feedback.
In the short time the scheme – in which five cents was charged per plastic bag and then donated to charity – was in place, the usage of plastic bags dropped by 60%, and thousands of dollars were donated to charities around the country.
