Instructions and steps: 

Step 1 Place juices in a small deep pan with vanilla pod, mixed spices, orange zest (if using) and sugar. Heat until sugar is dissolved.

Step 2 Add peeled pears to pan, making sure they are covered with liquid. Bring to the boil. Simmer covered for 25 minutes, or until pears are tender.

Step 3 Transfer pears to a warm dish. Return 2 cups fruit juice syrup to the same pan. Bring to the boil.

Step 4 Boil rapidly for 10 minutes, or until syrup is reduced by half. Serve pears hot or cold.
