Instructions and steps:
Step 1 Place all ingredients in the slow cooker, adding the water last.
Step 2 Put the lid on and cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 8-10 hours, until the peas are very soft and the ham falls off the bone. Remove ham bone from the slow cooker and remove the fat and meat from the bone. Discard fat. Roughly chop the meat and add back to the soup.
Step 3 Garnish with pepper and basil or parsley and serve.
Variations
Make it gluten-free: Check your ham or bacon are gluten-free, and serve with gluten-free bread.
